L IKE A FISHOUT OF SALTY WATER
In LIKE A FISH OUT OF SALTY WATER, we fictionalize the chronic disease endometriosis with its multiple growths and everyday restrictions into monsters. These poetic figures of endometriosis stand for abstract and at the same time threatening organisms that influence, challenge, and weigh down our everyday lives and yet are so familiar to us as lifelong companions in all their monstrousness.
Endometriosis determines the lives of us, Golshan, Hyunsin and Marja in different dimensions and stages of life. Thus, the lack of space for chronic illnesses within a free-market logic inevitably leads us to ask: Are chronic illnesses not the monsters at all, but rather the repressive capitalist structures under which we must always carry on regardless of our state of health?
We create fun and poetic counter-designs on stage, complete with transforming bodies, soundscapes, choreography and a very, very impractical pet.
Take a breath and get into our chronic aquarium!
